A day of my life

So we start at 2:35 pm, I step out of Mr. Leduc’s psych ward of a class, get in my car, and speed home. Upon arriving home at 2:45, I toss my backpack on the floor and begin my favorite part of the day. I proceed to grab one of the finest bananas my kitchen counter has to offer and watch a YouTube video on the Kardashev scale to relax

3:20 rolls around, and it’s time to throw away the banana peel, click off my phone, and begin getting ready for a night of sailing. At 3:40, I had my lifejacket and snacks together and left for Swantown Marina.

At 4:00, I met with the boat’s owner and began readying the boat. The boat is a Melges 24 named Rufus, and it typically is a very fast boat, as we often get 1st or 2nd. However, the boat hasn’t sailed in months, and it shows. So We proceed to spend 25 minutes scrubing the accumulated dust of a haul and the weeks worth of dried bird shit off the deck. After much cleaning and rigging, we finally got the boat and pushed off the dock at 5 o’clock.

We practice and sail around for an hour and a half before the race starts at 6:30. The race starts, and we secure an amazing start and keep the momentum around the course. At last, we sail through the finish line at around 7:50. securing a 2nd place. We derig the boat and drive back home at 8:40.

I arrive back home at 9 pm and immediately begin figuring out what to eat for dinner. As I was tired and frankly I’m lazy, I settled on a microwaveable bowl of fried rice from Trader Joe’s. 5 minutes late,r the microwave door swings open, I peel off the film, and begin tearing into the fried rice while binge-watching Game of Thrones for the second day in a row. I’m only on season 2, so no spoilers. By 10:40, I figure it’s been long enough, and I head upstairs to take a shower and hit the sack.

By 7:30 in the morning, I crawl out of bed and begin my day. By 9:40, I’m making my breakfast that I eat every morning, 2 fried eggs on 2 pieces of toast slathered in cream cheese. Once I finish making breakfast, I eat it while watching the metaphorical million reels my friends send me every day. Once done with those, I kick on a YouTube video and kick around until I leave for school at 8:20. By 8:30, I arrive at school, drop my bag off in my 1st period, and go talk to some friends until 9:00 rolls around when class starts.

The school day proceeds as it always does, with some classes being boring and others being fine. And now I’m back at 6th period. Right where it all started, the day before.

So what are the takeaways from all of this? What magic secrets about my life are shown by recording my day? Well, one thing I realized is that my morning is the same every day. While my evenings are very impulsive and different every day. For example, that sailboat race was only decided on a night or 2 before the race. And the night after that, I spent the whole time playing video games. And the one after that, binge-watching Game of Thrones. Though all these play into the theme that my evenings are generally relaxing and unproductive.

That’s all, goodbye.

PRE-PRODUCTION – PLANNING – Due April 11

PROJECT TIMELINE WITH MILESTONES

Pre-production Milestones

1. Understand the Sound

  • Familiarize yourself with Sleep Token’s discography. Pay attention to their signature blend of ambient, metal, post-rock, and R&B influences. Notice how they seamlessly transition between soft, emotional moments and intense, heavy sections.

2. Define the Theme

  • Sleep Token’s songs often revolve around deep emotional themes—love, loss, spiritual longing, and personal struggles. Choose a theme that resonates emotionally and fits their atmospheric style.

3. Create the Mood

  • Decide on the overall mood of the song—will it be melancholic, dark, or perhaps hopeful in some moments? Sleep Token’s music can be haunting and ethereal, so consider how to set this tone.

4. Start with Atmosphere

  • Begin your song by creating an ambient intro with atmospheric sounds. Use reverb-heavy pads, gentle synths, or subtle guitar flourishes to set a dreamy, ethereal mood.

5. Write the Lyrics

  • Keep the lyrics poetic and introspective, using imagery and metaphor. Sleep Token’s lyrics are often vague, leaving space for interpretation but still conveying deep emotion. They also explore themes of worship, the divine, and vulnerability.

6. Focus on the Dynamics

  • One of the hallmarks of Sleep Token is their dynamic shifts—soft, ambient verses that build into powerful, emotional choruses. Plan to have moments of calm followed by explosive intensity.

7. Vocal Style

  • Sleep Token’s vocalist (Vessel) has a distinct style, with smooth, soulful singing that often transitions into more powerful, aggressive screams or growls. Plan to include a variety of vocal techniques.

8. Piano or Soft Keys

  • Piano is often a key instrument in Sleep Token songs, providing a hauntingly melodic backbone. Consider using piano or other keyboard sounds to carry the song’s harmonic structure.

9. Build Tension

  • Introduce tension gradually. Add elements like increasing reverb, distant drums, or swelling synths that grow over time, creating a sense of anticipation.

10. Create a Strong Rhythm Section

  • When it’s time to build intensity, bring in the drums. Sleep Token’s rhythm section can go from subdued, electronic beats to intense, heavy drum patterns. Work with layering percussion or using off-beat rhythms.

11. Layered Guitar Riffs

  • Incorporate textured, atmospheric guitar riffs. Sleep Token often uses clean tones with delay and reverb for softer sections, but they switch to heavier distorted riffs during intense moments.

12. Contrast Soft and Heavy Elements

  • Write contrasting sections—soft, intimate verses that transition into heavier, more aggressive choruses. This contrast is a key element in creating emotional highs and lows.

13. Use of Choirs or Background Vocals

  • Sleep Token sometimes uses ethereal choir-like vocals in the background to build a celestial or haunting atmosphere. Consider layering multiple vocal tracks or using harmonies to create this effect.

14. Incorporate Electronic Elements

  • Add subtle electronic textures—these could be glitchy beats, atmospheric drones, or manipulated vocals. Sleep Token often blends organic instruments with electronic production for a unique sound.

15. Craft an Emotional Bridge

  • Write a bridge that serves as an emotional release. This could be a quiet, stripped-down moment before a powerful final chorus or a more aggressive section that builds tension.

16. Add a Climactic Chorus

  • The climax of the song should have an explosive chorus with powerful instrumentation and emotionally charged vocals. Sleep Token’s choruses often include layered harmonies and soaring melodies.

17. Tweak Your Arrangement

  • Experiment with the song’s structure. Don’t feel confined to traditional song formats—Sleep Token’s songs often defy standard verse-chorus-verse patterns, so consider introducing unexpected shifts.

18. Subtle Instrumentation Choices

  • Experiment with non-traditional sounds like ambient noise, field recordings, or other unique textures. These details help create a rich sonic landscape.

19. Experiment with Silence

  • Use moments of silence or minimalism to create space in the song. Sleep Token often utilizes this technique to give emotional weight to the more powerful sections of a song.

20. Polish the Final Production

  • Once your song is written, focus on production. Pay attention to the mix—ensure that the ambient elements and intense sections sit well together. Master the transitions between the soft and heavy elements to ensure emotional impact.

PROPOSED BUDGET

Final Rate Consideration

ChatGPT’s respomnse to “can you give me scientific evidence for that claim?”:

A solo artist will likely charge a higher rate per hour to cover these costs and make a profit. For example:

  • The artist might charge $25-$100/hour or more, depending on their experience, reputation, and location.

This gives a rough idea, but the exact rate will depend on the specific details of the artist’s situation. Would you like a more detailed breakdown of a specific case?

Primary Source

Euclid by Sleep Token is a masterpiece that shows how to make a calm and sorrowful song that is also emotionally powerful. For some context, this song is the last song in their three-album story documenting the lead singer’s experience with an abusive relationship. This song is perfection to me.

Notable features of this song is how the song are:

  1. The song ends how the first song in the first album started.
  2. The somber piano. (piano tone)
  3. The energetic guitars. (distortion and big)
  4. The soft lyrics.
  5. The songwriting and how they bring back and change parts.
  6. How they bring the piano through the whole song.
  7. How the song is perfectly mixed and hiow i can hear everything in detail through the distorted guitars.

Steve is a touring musician and he is a great example of how people react emotionally to this song and is good to take notes on what Sleep Token made and how it emotionally affected someone like him.

Sleep Token uses the vocalist’s soothing yet early vocal style to effortlessly create a floating sound. The mix is also very wet and has many ambient instruments in the background that add to the effect.

The song’s strong point with regards to what I want to write is:

    • The vocal performance the mix and the melody of the vocals
    • The instrumental piano work (both digital and acoustic)
    • The way the parts mesh together before the drums come in and after they come in.
